What is a school/sports physical?
This physical is designed for the child needing a specific exam for a specific reason. This kind of exam generally includes an office visit along with the completion of forms.
Who needs a school/sports physical?
There are many reasons a child may need this kind of physical. Reasons may include the following:
- Physical for starting daycare
- Attending summer camp
- Joining Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts
- Cheerleading
- Any school related sport
- Applying to medical or nursing school
What to expect before and during the physical
Usually a form needs completed for this kind of physical. Bring all forms with you to the exam. The exam will include taking the age, height, weight, and possibly the blood pressure of your child. Every body system will be examined. A hearing screening may be required if necessary for the exam. You may also have to answer specific questions listed on the physical form, such as " Are glasses worn?"
After the exam, a copy of the form will be placed in your child's chart. You may also want to keep a copy of the form at home to use for future reference.
